Days, weeks, months are filled with hustle, bustle and madness. Don’t get us wrong, we wouldn’t have it any other way but there comes a day when one must take a chill. Be it indulging in a day of blissful wandering around nearby surroundings, spending an indulgent few hours with an afternoon tea or heading for the ultimate relaxing retreat at a spa nearby. If you’re like us, and the ‘chill’ is a rarity then it’s key you squeeze in all three and that’s just what we did with a 24 hour ‘chill’ at Lifehouse Spa.
Just a short and sweet train trip an hour outside London we whizzed into Thorpe-le-Soken, where we were picked up by the lovely Hannah and driven right to the door of our retreat. With open arms, we were welcomed in and directed to our cosy room. Plush pillows, divine duvets and fresh white sheets, we were sold and it took all our might and strain not to dive in there and then. If it hadn’t been for the temptation of a 25 minute back and shoulder massage, and the excitement of our individual consultations you may have just lost us to the land of Zzzzz instantaneously. Into our fluffy white robes, and off we headed ready for an afternoon of total indulgence!
Whilst visiting Lifehouse we experienced the De-Stress SOS 1 Night Retreat. This includes a night in one of those gorgeous rooms we discussed earlier, a three course dinner in The Lifehouse restaurant, a 25 minute calming massage and a 50 minute choice of Healing and Balance, Reiki or Nutritional Tune Up. Did we also mention full use of the spa, gym and gardens plus a whole host of complimentary fitness classes? Yes, this really is one night dreams are made of!
Unusual for us we split up, E headed for her Healing and Balance session and H for her nutritional tune up. E spent her 50 minutes in blissful meditation, being reminded of the importance of both a calm body and mind, whilst H discussed all things digestion and the importance of endurance fueling. The takeaways were different, but both were equally valued. It’s not often retreats offer these kind of specialised services, but once again Lifehouse outdid itself. Next up were the 25 minute calming massages, killing off all stress and strain in the neck and back area. Of course we both fell asleep, but that’s the point right?
After fully indulging in ‘total chill’ we headed back to our rooms, once again narrowly avoiding diving right into bed and got ourselves fancied up to feast. The staff were more than happy to bring our dinner reservation forward as we succumbed to our rumbling tummies. This is what we’d really been waiting for… three courses of wholesome delicious dining, packed full of goodness to better and beautify the body! First up a starter trilogy; warm smoked salmon salad, asparagus wrapped in parma ham with a parmesan crisp, and raw beetroot ravioli with pesto. A wonderfully zesty and crisp summer starter…we quite literally licked our plates clean. The main was a seasonal salad with a ‘choose your protein’ side plate; meaty yet flaky and flavoured cod, succulent chicken breast and hard boiled eggs. Finally we finished a trio of desserts, because the dinner wouldn’t have been complete without it! Chocolate avocado mousse, healthified banoffee pie and a scrummy sponge cake. We both agreed this was one of the best meals we had ever eaten… ever!
Time to roll back to our rooms and finally give in to to the ever begging comfort!
No alarm was set so we naturally rose to the sunlight flooding into our room from the stunning ‘sunken gardens’. We wrapped ourselves in fluffy robes and set off in search of the pool and spa for a morning dip.
The breakfast spread had a ‘saints and sinners’ feel. If you were on an indulgent trip away mini pastries and full english were on option, but it was the ‘healthy’ spread of yoghurt, fresh fruit, smoked salmon and eggs any way you like them plus freshly pressed juices selection that had us drooling.
With bellies satisfied and stuffed we set off on a stroll along ‘Bluebell Walk’. With the flowers in full spring it was certainly a sight to see, and the perfect final hour out to catch up on TTH plans, surrounded by stunning bluebells and towering trees, totally ignorant to the hustle and bustle of normality just an hour’s walk away.
And it was here that marked the time for TTH to head back to the city. This time we were heading back de stressed, well rested and ready to attack the week head on.
