Why this Race…
Most 10km races take part in parks and are two laps of the same 5km course. This one however started in Leicester Square headed out past St.Paul’s all the way to The Bank of England and back to finish on The Mall. The route is quite scenic and you go past many iconic buildings.
To start the race there is a big snow canon!! Along the course there is more fake snow, hi-fiving penguins and polar bear hugs…what more could you want?
The route was pretty flat with a downhill section just before the finish. The flat course paired with running on the road makes this race one to put in a quick 10km time!
Famous Faces…
Jo Pavey – 10,000m gold medal at the 2014 European Championships in Zürich, ten months after giving birth to her second child! She is also a four-time Olympian, having represented Great Britain in every Olympic Games from 2000 to 2012. On top of all this she has won medlas at the 2012 European Championship, 2006 Commonwealth Games and 2014 Commonwealth Games. At global level, her best results include finishing fourth in the 10,000 m at the 2007 World Championships and fifth in the 5000 m at the 2004 Olympic Games.
Mid run Brainwave…
Who would win a 10km race, a penguin or a polar bear? I mean if it was downhill the penguin could slide on its belly the whole way!
Number 1 Fan…
The person dressed as a snowman with a snow cannon around the 8km mark!
